Encouraging the Next Generation of Automotive Technicians through the NHRA Youth and Education Services Program

As part of the Race to 2026 program and in partnership with the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), Pep Boys is proud to support the NHRA Youth and Education Services (YES) Program. The NHRA YES program is the only full-time education program in motorsports providing free, quality educational content and activities for schools and youth organizations across the United States.

Participating students in the YES program learn about and explore career opportunities within the automotive industry and motorsports field by connecting with leaders across the automotive space.

As the Official Auto Service Partner of the NHRA and YES program partner, members of the Pep Boys leadership Team attend NHRA events to connect with students and discuss the incredible career opportunities available to future auto technicians.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that there will be nearly 69,000 job openings for automotive service technicians and mechanics each year, on average, over the decade. In response to this demand for technicians, Pep Boys launched their Race to 2026 program in February 2019. This initiative aims to close the nation’s skills gap through partnerships with technical schools, apprenticeships, ongoing training and development and, more recently, the Company’s partnership with the NHRA YES program.

Pep Boys offers a broad range of opportunities and career paths for today’s auto service technician in addition to encouraging talented future skilled tradespeople to follow their passion for the industry. With a commitment to supporting technical education and training and development, a Pep Boys auto service technician can pursue several different career paths.
